Introduction to Mari0
Mari0 blends the run-and-jump style of Super Mario Bros. with a portal gun. You shoot two linked gates onto walls, floors, and ceilings. You step into one and exit the other. Your speed carries through. The original World 1-1 through 8-4 layouts return in a new form. Short puzzles demand timing and a clear plan.
The gun lets you reroute enemies and shells, hop past traps, and fling across wide gaps. You stack momentum to reach hidden spaces. Local co-op supports up to four players on one screen. Teammates place portals for each other and create efficient shortcuts. A built-in editor lets players build and share collections of user-made levels with custom tiles and music.
Mari0 launched in 2012 from the Stabyourself team. The game built a large library of custom maps and challenge packs from its community. Speedrunners trace fast lines through familiar stages using portal routes. Puzzle fans craft setups with shell bounces, projectile redirects, and chained long launches. Tight controls and consistent physics reward practice and experimentation.
