Command a Pirate Ship in Naval Battles
Treasure of Cutlass Reef is a pirate action game where you control a sailing ship and fight enemy fleets at sea. Your ultimate goal is to break through the hostile forces guarding the treasure. Instead of controlling a pirate on foot, you command the entire ship from a top-down view.
Enemy ships move around the water and fire their cannons. You need to steer into a useful position, avoid incoming attacks, and bring your own cannons close enough to cause serious damage.
Line Up the Side of Your Ship
The arrow keys or W, A, S, and D steer the vessel. Spacebar, Ctrl, or F fires the cannons. You can also use V to change the direction of your cannon fire.
Position matters because a sailing ship does not attack like a forward-facing gun. You need to turn so your cannons can line up with the enemy.
Firing from a poor angle can waste shots. Waiting until an enemy crosses the side of your ship gives you a much better chance of landing several cannonballs.
Earn Gold and Upgrade the Ship
Winning battles rewards you with gold. You can spend this money on upgrades that improve areas such as your hull, sails, crew, and cannons.
These improvements become important as stronger enemy fleets appear.
A better crew can help the ship operate more effectively. Improved sails affect movement. Cannon upgrades make your attacks more dangerous, while hull improvements help the vessel survive more punishment.
Fight Your Way Toward the Treasure
Treasure of Cutlass Reef is a single-player game built around a series of naval battles. Enemy groups become the obstacles standing between your crew and the treasure. Later fights demand better movement and stronger upgrades than the early encounters.
Charging directly into several ships can leave you surrounded. Moving around the fleet and choosing a better firing angle can keep you safer.
